SUMMARY:Critical Edge Home Defense Shotgun
DESCRIPTION:Prertegistration required. \nA shotgun can be a devastatingly effective tool for home defense.  But a shotgun is not a magic wand.  Like any tool\, a shotgun has advantages and disadvantages.  Critical Edge’s Home Defense with Shotgun course provides an overview of the advantages and disadvantages of a shotgun for protecting oneself and one’s family in the home.  The curriculum includes techniques and strategies designed to deter burglars\, home invaders and other criminals.   Included are ways to make your home less appealing to criminals who will be inclined to seek easier targets.  The course also includes information on development of a home defense plan\, shooting positions\, aiming and firing techniques\, the use of cover and concealment\, and methods of clearing various types of firearm malfunctions.   The skills presented in this course form the core shooting skills used to counter a life-threatening attack in the home using a shotgun. \nThe class addresses both the avoidance of attack and the use of force if necessary.  Much of the course deals with techniques and strategies designed to deter burglars\, home invaders and other criminals.   Included are ways to make your home less appealing to criminals who will be inclined to seek easier targets.  The course emphasizes hands on training and includes information on defensive shooting skills \, aiming and firing techniques\, the use of cover and concealment\, methods of clearing various types of firearm malfunctions and development of a home defense plan.   The material presented in this course includes segments on self defense law and the aftermath of a defensive shooting. \nThe course is open to individuals age 18 and above that may legally possess a firearm.  Under federal law\, however\, certain non-U.S. citizens are prohibited from participating in this course.    Only non-U.S. citizens who are: (1) lawfully permanent residents (e.g.\, green card holders); (2) refugees; or (3) individuals who have been granted asylum may participate in this course. There is no training prerequisite for this class.  But\, taking the NRA Basic Pistol course or equivalent before undertaking the Home Defense course is highly encouraged.  Students must be thoroughly familiar with their shotgun\, its operation and demonstrate safe firearms handling skills throughout the course. \nProgress through the course is not driven by a schedule.  We will move through the curriculum as quickly or slowly as necessary to allow the students to learn the material. \nThe Critical Edge Home Defense with Shotgun course will be held within an easy driving distance of Harrisburg\, Mechanicsburg\, and Carlisle\, PA at the Duncannon Sportsmen’s Association on the dates below.  On both days\, we will meet in the Duncannon Sportsmen’s Association clubhouse beginning at 9:00 AM and probably conclude by 5:00 PM.   To ensure close personal attention for each student\, this course is limited to 9 people. \nSummer Class dates: \n\nJune 14-15\, 2023 (Wed-Thur)\nJuly 27-28\, 2023 (Thur-Fri)\nAug 30-31\, 2023 (Wed-Thur)\n\nTo reserve a spot in a class please go to the following to make payment:  https://criticaledge.us/make-a-payment/    The fee for the course is $255.00.  Members of the Duncannon Sportsmen’s Association\, veterans and first responders receive a $25.00 discount.  The fee for active duty members of the U.S. military is $155.00.  To finalize registration\, please also send an email (to:  carl.walker@criticaledge.us ) with the following information: \nName as you want it to appear on your certificate; \nMailing address; \nPhone number; \nPlease indicate if you are a member of the Duncannon Sportsmen’s Association; \nThe brand\, model and gauge of any shotgun you will be bringing to class; \nYour interests with regard to firearms and any firearms; and \nA brief description of your previous experience with firearms; and any personal security goals you may have. \n
