SUMMARY:NRA Basic Rifle
DESCRIPTION:Registration closed. \nThe NRA Basic Rifle course teaches the basic knowledge\, skills and attitude to safely own and operate a rifle.  Instruction will include both classroom and range time addressing safe rifle handling\, rifle parts and operation\, ammunition\, shooting fundamentals\, range rules\, shooting from the bench rest position\, cleaning the rifle and continued opportunities for skill development.  This class is a comprehensive presentation of the basics and is a great way for new shooters to get started and for experienced shooters to build a stronger foundation of knowledge and skills. \nProgress through the course is not driven by a schedule.  We will move through the curriculum as quickly or slowly as necessary to allow the students to learn the material.  The training goal is to ensure that\, by the end of the course\, all the students have acquired the competence and confidence to safely handle a rifle on their own. \nAll live fire for the Basic Rifle course will be conducted on a one-on-one basis with an NRA certified instructor.  We will start with a .22 caliber rifle and ammunition provided by Critical Edge.  Those students who already have a rifle of their own\, and would like to fire it\, will have an opportunity to do so.  But\, they must bring their own ammunition and notify Critical Edge in advance. \nThe course will be held within an easy driving distance of Harrisburg\, Mechanicsburg\, and Carlisle\, PA at the Duncannon Sportsmen’s Association on the dates below.  We will meet in the Duncannon Sportsmen’s Association clubhouse.  To ensure close personal attention for each student\, this course is limited to 6 people. \nThere are no training prerequisites for this class.  The course is open to U.S. citizens that may legally possess a firearm.  Students below age 18 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.  Please coordinate the attendance of students below the age of 18 with Critical Edge in advance of signing up for the class.   Due to current interpretations of International Traffic in Arms Regulations stemming from the Arms Export Control Act of 1976\, only current\, lawful “US Persons” – both US Citizens and lawful permanent Resident Aliens in possession of a current I-551 (colloquially known as a “Green Card”) are allowed to participate in NRA firearms training courses. \nPreregistration and an initial deposit of 50% is required for registration and reservation of a spot in the class.  You may cancel your reservation up to 72 hours before the class begins and request to receive a full refund. SUMMARY:Critical Edge Tactical Shotgun
DESCRIPTION:Registration closed. \nContinuing to build on the foundation of safely handling a shotgun acquired in the NRA Basic Shotgun class\, this class is orientated towards the defensive use of a shotgun and includes material on gun handling\, reloads\, malfunctions\, engagement of multiple targets and use of cover and concealment.  It is an ideal stepping-stone to a home defense with shotgun course and a great opportunity for students to polish the skills learned in the home defense class. \n  \nThe drills are “performance based” to increase the student’s knowledge\, competence and confidence with a shotgun. The drills also encompass rapid movement and other physical activity to push the students to perform under a degree of “stress.” \nThere are no formal training prerequisites for this class.  Students must\, however\, be competent in the safe handling and operation of their firearm.  The course is open to U.S. citizens age 18 and above who may legally possess a firearm.  Under federal law\, however\, certain non-U.S. citizens are prohibited from participating in this course.    Only non-U.S. citizens who are: (1) lawfully permanent residents (e.g.\, green card holders); (2) refugees; or (3) individuals who have been granted asylum may participate in this course. \n  \nProgress through the course is not driven by a schedule.  We will move through the curriculum as quickly or slowly as necessary to allow the students to learn the material.  The training goals of the course are to provide an introductory foundation to enable the students to safely and successfully practice defensive shotgun skills on their own and to prepare them to continue into more advanced training. \n  \nLive fire will be conducted with the student’s shotgun and ammunition.  Expect to shoot 250 – 300 rounds during the live fire segment of the class.  Hearing and eye protection are required.  Semi automatic and pump shotguns in either 12 or 20 gauge are recommended for the class.  Single barrel/single shot shotguns and double barrel shotguns will greatly hamper the ability of students to participate in many of the drills and present a considerable barrier to defensive skills development.  A sling\, shotgun mounted shell holder and a body worn shell carrier or ammunition pouch  are all highly recommended.   If you are purchasing a shotgun or accessories prior to this course\, check with Critical Edge for some advice about options before making your purchase. \n  \nThe Critical Edge Intermediate Shotgun course will be held within an easy driving distance of Harrisburg\, Mechanicsburg\, and Carlisle\, PA at the Duncannon Sportsmen’s Association on the dates below.  We will meet in the Duncannon Sportsmen’s Association clubhouse.   To ensure close personal attention for each student\, this course is limited to 8 people. \n  \nThe fee for the course is $125.00.  Members of the Duncannon Sportsmen’s Association\, veterans and first responders receive a $15.00 discount.  The fee for members of the U.S. military on active duty and students who have taken the class previously is $60.00.  Preregistration and an initial deposit of 50% is required for registration and reservation of a spot in the class.  You may cancel your reservation up to 72 hours before the class begins and request to receive a full refund. If we don’t meet that requirement\, we will have to reschedule the course.\n\nDescription: Course is presented in two parts: basic instructor training (BIT)\, and discipline specific instructor training.
