SUMMARY:NRA Basic Shotgun
DESCRIPTION:Preregistration required.   \nThe focus of the NRA Basics of Shotgun shooting course is for the student to develop the knowledge\, skills\, and attitude to safely and effectively handle a shotgun and to fire at a moving target.  This course works well for somebody who wants to try shotgunning without having to invest in a gun and for those who have discovered the enjoyment of shotguns but have not yet  purchased their own gun and are looking for help in making a selection.  The class provides a solid foundation for new shooters as well as an opportunity for experienced shooters to learn new skills\, and gain awareness of any “bad habits” that may have gone unnoticed for years.  Included are sections on shotgun types\, accessories\, ammunition selection\, gun handling and live fire.  Safety is emphasized throughout the course.  The material presented in this course forms the core knowledge and skills used in all shotgun activities from hunting through home defense and formal competition. \nProgress through the course is not driven by a schedule.  We will move through the curriculum as quickly or slowly as necessary to allow the students to learn the material.  The training goal is to ensure that\, by the end of the course\, all the students have acquired the competence and confidence to safely handle a shotgun on their own. \nAll live fire for the Basic Shotgun course will be conducted on a one-on-one basis with an NRA certified instructor.  We will start with a 12 or 20 gauge shotgun and ammunition provided by Critical Edge.  Those students who already have a shotgun of their own\, and would like to fire it\, will have an opportunity to do so.  But\, they must bring their own ammunition and notify Critical Edge in advance. \nThe course will be held within an easy driving distance of Harrisburg\, Mechanicsburg\, and Carlisle\, PA at the Duncannon Sportsmen’s Association on the dates below.  We will meet in the Duncannon Sportsmen’s Association clubhouse.  To ensure close personal attention for each student\, this course is limited to 6 people. \nThere are no training prerequisites for this class.  The course is open to U.S. citizens age 18 and above that may legally possess a firearm.  Students below age 18 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.  Please coordinate the attendance of students below the age of 18 with Critical Edge in advance of signing up for the class.   Due to current interpretations of International Traffic in Arms Regulations stemming from the Arms Export Control Act of 1976\, only current\, lawful “US Persons” – both US Citizens and lawful permanent Resident Aliens in possession of a current I-551 (colloquially known as a “Green Card”) are allowed to participate in NRA firearms training courses. \nThe fee for the course is $145.00.  Members of the Duncannon Sportsmen’s Association\, veterans and first responders receive a $15.00 discount.  The fee for members of the U.S. military on active duty is $75.00.   Preregistration and an initial deposit of 50% is required for registration and reservation of a spot in the class.  You may cancel your reservation up to 72 hours before the class begins and request to receive a full refund. DESCRIPTION:Preregistration required.  This is a BIT course. \nThis 16 hour course teaches the knowledge\, skills and attitude essential to organizing\, promoting and teaching NRA’s Basic Pistol shooting course. \nPrerequisites: \n!.  Students must have successfully completed the NRA Basic Pistol Couse and provide appropriate documentation; \n2.  Possession of basic firearm safety and shooting skills is a perquisite for certification as an NRA instructor. Prior to the instructor training\, candidates complete a pre-course questionnaire and demonstrate their firearm background in pre-course assessment exercise; additionally \n3.  By NRA policy\, this course must have a minimum of four students. If we don’t meet that requirement\, we will have to reschedule the course. \nDescription: Course is presented in two parts: basic instructor training\, and discipline specific instructor training. Students demonstrate organizational and teaching skills via participation in practical exercises during the course\, and complete an instructor certification examination. SUMMARY:Critical Edge Intermediate Shotgun
DESCRIPTION:Preregistration required.  This is not an NRA class. \nContinuing to build on the foundation of safely handling a shotgun acquired in the NRA Basic Shotgun class\, this class is orientated towards the defensive use of a shotgun and includes material on gun handling\, reloads\, malfunctions\, engagement of multiple targets and use of cover and concealment.  It is an ideal stepping-stone to a home defense with shotgun course and a great opportunity for students to polish the skills learned in the home defense class. \nThe drills will be “performance based” to increase the student’s knowledge\, competence and confidence with a shotgun. The drills will also encompass rapid movement and other physical activity to push the students to perform under a degree of “stress.”  There are no formal training prerequisites for this class.  Students must\, however\, be competent in the safe handling and operation of their firearm.  The course is open to U.S. citizens age 18 and above that may legally possess a firearm.  Under federal law\, however\, certain non-U.S. citizens are prohibited from participating in this course.    Only non-U.S. citizens who are: (1) lawfully permanent residents (e.g.\, green card holders); (2) refugees; or (3) individuals who have been granted asylum may participate in this course. \nProgress through the course is not driven by a schedule.  We will move through the curriculum as quickly or slowly as necessary to allow the students to learn the material.  The training goals of the course are to provide an introductory foundation to enable the students to safely and successfully practice defensive shotgun skills on their own and to prepare them to continue into more advanced training. \nLive fire will be conducted with the student’s shotgun and ammunition.  Expect to shoot 250 – 300 rounds during the live fire segment of the class.  Hearing and eye protection are required.  Semi-automatic and pump shotguns in either 12 or 20 gauge are recommended for the class.  Single barrel/single shot shotguns and double barrel shotguns will greatly hamper the ability of students to participate in many of the drills and present a considerable barrier to defensive skills development.  A sling\, shotgun mounted shell holder and a body worn shell carrier or ammunition pouch are all highly recommended.   If you are purchasing a shotgun or accessories prior to this course\, check with Critical Edge for some advice about options before making your purchase. \nThe Critical Edge Intermediate Shotgun course will be held within an easy driving distance of Harrisburg\, Mechanicsburg\, and Carlisle\, PA at the Duncannon Sportsmen’s Association on the dates below.  We will meet in the Duncannon Sportsmen’s Association clubhouse.   To ensure close personal attention for each student\, this course is limited to 8 people. \nThe fee for the course is $125.00.  Members of the Duncannon Sportsmen’s Association\, veterans and first responders receive a $15.00 discount.  The fee for members of the U.S. military on active duty and students that have taken the class previously is $60.00.  Preregistration and an initial deposit of 50% is required for registration and reservation of a spot in the class.  You may cancel your reservation up to 72 hours before the class begins and request to receive a full refund. DESCRIPTION:Preregistration required.  This is not an NRA class. \nThe Critical Edge Intermediate Pistol class is for students at skill levels from new pistol owners to those who grew up with firearms and want to improve their defensive firearms capabilities.  It is a class designed to bridge the gap between marksmanship on a conventional range and the defensive application of a pistol.  This is an ideal class for someone that has taken a basic pistol class who doesn’t feel they’re quite ready for a home defense or concealed carry course.  It is equally good for an experienced shooter that is new to defensive shooting.   This class is practical pistol training intended to assist participants in achieving much higher levels of proficiency.  Regardless of previous experience it will help to build on the fundamentals of shooting\, foster safety in the handling of firearms and help participants avoid bad habits.  The class goes beyond basic operation and introduces students to the use of a firearm in defensive situations.    This class will reinforce skills learned in Basic Pistol like proper grip\, stance\, sight alignment\, and trigger press\, as well as address common handgun malfunctions\, reloads\, the use of cover and concealment and close quarters application of a defensive firearm.  This is a class that can be taken multiple times in order to polish basic defensive pistol skills.  While the cost of ammunition has dropped considerably from the height of the shortage\, laser pistols will be relied upon as an effective way to learn skills and to reduce ammunition costs. \nThe course will be held within an easy driving distance of Harrisburg\, Mechanicsburg\, and Carlisle\, PA at the Duncannon Sportsmen’s Association on the dates below.  We will meet in the Duncannon Sportsmen’s Association clubhouse.  To ensure close personal attention for each student\, this course is limited to 8 people. \nThere are no training prerequisites for this class.  Students must\, however\, be competent in the safe handling and operation of their firearm.  The course is open to U.S. citizens age 21 and above that may legally possess a firearm.  Due to current interpretations of International Traffic in Arms Regulations stemming from the Arms Export Control Act of 1976\, only current\, lawful “US Persons” – both US Citizens and lawful permanent Resident Aliens in possession of a current I-551 (colloquially known as a “Green Card”) are allowed to participate in NRA firearms training courses. \nLive fire will be conducted with the student’s pistol and ammunition.  The drills will be “performance based” to increase the student’s knowledge\, competence and confidence in the defensive use of a pistol. The drills will encompass rapid movement and other physical activity to push the students to perform under a degree of “stress.”  Expect to shoot 250-300 rounds during the live fire segment of the class.  Hearing and eye protection are required as are two extra magazines or\, if a revolver is to be used\, at least two speed loaders.  A belt mounted magazine holder or speed load holder is highly recommended and a strong side belt mounted holster that was made specifically to fit your pistol is required. \nPreregistration and an initial deposit of 50% is required for registration and reservation of a spot in the class.  You may cancel your reservation up to 72 hours before the class begins and request to receive a full refund. DESCRIPTION:Preregistration required.  This is not an NRA class. \nThe Critical Edge Intermediate Pistol class is for students at skill levels from new pistol owners to those who grew up with firearms and want to improve their defensive firearms capabilities.  It is a class designed to bridge the gap between marksmanship on a conventional range and the defensive application of a pistol.  This is an ideal class for someone that has taken a basic pistol class who doesn’t feel they’re quite ready for a home defense or concealed carry course.  It is equally good for an experienced shooter that is new to defensive shooting.   This class is practical pistol training intended to assist participants in achieving much higher levels of proficiency.  Regardless of previous experience it will help to build on the fundamentals of shooting\, foster safety in the handling of firearms and help participants avoid bad habits.  The class goes beyond basic operation and introduces students to the use of a firearm in defensive situations.    This class will reinforce skills learned in Basic Pistol like proper grip\, stance\, sight alignment\, and trigger press\, as well as address common handgun malfunctions\, reloads\, the use of cover and concealment and close quarters application of a defensive firearm.  This is a class that can be taken multiple times in order to polish basic defensive pistol skills.  While the cost of ammunition has dropped considerably from the height of the shortage\, laser pistols will be relied upon as an effective way to learn skills and to reduce ammunition costs. \nThe course will be held within an easy driving distance of Harrisburg\, Mechanicsburg\, and Carlisle\, PA at the Duncannon Sportsmen’s Association on the dates below.  We will meet in the Duncannon Sportsmen’s Association clubhouse.  To ensure close personal attention for each student\, this course is limited to 8 people. \nThere are no training prerequisites for this class.  Students must\, however\, be competent in the safe handling and operation of their firearm.  The course is open to U.S. citizens age 21 and above that may legally possess a firearm.  Due to current interpretations of International Traffic in Arms Regulations stemming from the Arms Export Control Act of 1976\, only current\, lawful “US Persons” – both US Citizens and lawful permanent Resident Aliens in possession of a current I-551 (colloquially known as a “Green Card”) are allowed to participate in NRA firearms training courses. \nLive fire will be conducted with the student’s pistol and ammunition.  The drills will be “performance based” to increase the student’s knowledge\, competence and confidence in the defensive use of a pistol. The drills will encompass rapid movement and other physical activity to push the students to perform under a degree of “stress.”  Expect to shoot 250-300 rounds during the live fire segment of the class.  Hearing and eye protection are required as are two extra magazines or\, if a revolver is to be used\, at least two speed loaders.  A belt mounted magazine holder or speed load holder is highly recommended and a strong side belt mounted holster that was made specifically to fit your pistol is required. \nPreregistration and an initial deposit of 50% is required for registration and reservation of a spot in the class.  You may cancel your reservation up to 72 hours before the class begins and request to receive a full refund.
