SUMMARY:NRA Basic Pistol
DESCRIPTION:The topics presented in the NRA Basic Pistol class form the core knowledge and skills used in all pistol shooting activities\, including informal recreational shooting through hunting\, competition and self-defense.  Safety is foundational to the entire course.  Included are segments on gun handling\, shooting positions\, pistol shooting activities\, pistol types\, ammunition\, and selection of pistols\, ammunition and accessories.  I really like the NRA Basic Pistol curriculum.  It’s a comprehensive approach to the basics of firearms training and is great for brand new shooters and for experienced shooters who wish to build a stronger foundation of knowledge and skills. \n  \n  \nProgress through the course is not driven by a schedule.  We will move through the curriculum as quickly or slowly as necessary to allow the students to learn the material.  The training goal is to ensure that\, by the end of the course\, all the students have acquired the competence and confidence to safely handle a pistol on their own. \n  \nAll live fire for the Basic Pistol course will be conducted on a one-on-one basis with an NRA certified instructor.  We will start with a .22 caliber pistol and ammunition provided by Critical Edge.  Those students who already have a pistol of their own\, and would like to fire it\, will have an opportunity to do so.  But\, they must bring their own ammunition and notify Critical Edge in advance. \n  \nThe course will be held within an easy driving distance of Harrisburg\, Mechanicsburg\, and Carlisle\, PA at the Duncannon Sportsmen’s Association on the dates below.  We will meet in the Duncannon Sportsmen’s Association clubhouse.  To ensure close personal attention for each student\, this course is limited to 6 people. \n  \nThere are no training prerequisites for this class.  The course is open to U.S. citizens age 21 and above that may legally possess a firearm.  Students below age 21 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.  Please coordinate the attendance of students below the age of 21 with Critical Edge in advance of signing up for the class.   Due to current interpretations of International Traffic in Arms Regulations stemming from the Arms Export Control Act of 1976\, only current\, lawful “US Persons” – both US Citizens and lawful permanent Resident Aliens in possession of a current I-551 (colloquially known as a “Green Card”) are allowed to participate in NRA firearms training courses. \n  \nPreregistration and an initial deposit of 50% is required for registration and reservation of a spot in the class.  You may cancel your reservation up to 72 hours before the class begins and request to receive a full refund. If cancellation is made in less than 72 hours before the class\, you will receive a credit which may be applied to another Critical Edge class at a later date.  Credit must be used within 180 days.  You can reserve a spot in the seminar by going to:  www.criticaledge.us/make-a-payment/     The fee for the course is $145.00.  Members of the Duncannon Sportsmen’s Association\, veterans and first responders receive a $15.00 discount.  The fee for members of the U.S. military on active duty is $75.00.   To finalize registration\, please also send an email (to:  carl.walker@criticaledge.us ) with the following information: \n  \nName as you want it to appear on your certificate; \nMailing address; \nPhone number; \nPlease indicate if you are a member of the Duncannon Sportsmen’s Association\, active duty member of the U.S. military\, veteran or first responder; \nThe course title and the date(s) which you wish to attend; \nThe type and caliber/gauge of any firearm you want to bring to class; \nA brief description of your previous experience with firearms; and \nYour interests with regard to firearms and any firearms or personal security goals you may have. \n  \nSpring Class Dates: \n\nMarch 8\, 2024             (Fri 8:00AM – 6:00PM)\nApril 2\, 2024                           (Tue  8:00AM- 6:00PM)\nMay 6\, 2024                           (Mon 8:00AM – 6:00PM)

SUMMARY:Critical Edge Intermediate Pistol
DESCRIPTION:  \n \nPreregistration required. \n  \nThe Critical Edge Intermediate Pistol class is for students at skill levels from new pistol owners to those who grew up with firearms and want to improve their defensive firearms capabilities.  It is a class designed to bridge the gap between marksmanship on a conventional range and the defensive application of a pistol.  This is an ideal class for someone that has taken a basic pistol class who doesn’t feel they’re quite ready for a home defense or concealed carry course.  It is equally good for an experienced shooter that is new to defensive shooting.   This class is practical pistol training intended to assist participants in achieving much higher levels of proficiency.  Regardless of previous experience it will help to build on the fundamentals of shooting\, foster safety in the handling of firearms and help participants avoid bad habits.  The class goes beyond basic operation and introduces students to the use of a firearm in defensive situations.    This class will reinforce skills learned in Basic Pistol like proper grip\, stance\, sight alignment\, and trigger press\, as well as address common handgun malfunctions\, reloads\, the use of cover and concealment and close quarters application of a defensive firearm.  This is a class that can be taken multiple times in order to polish basic defensive pistol skills.  While the cost of ammunition has dropped considerably from the height of the shortage\, laser pistols will be relied upon as an effective way to learn skills and to reduce ammunition costs. To ensure close personal attention for each student\, this course is limited to 9 people. \n  \nThere are no training prerequisites for this class.  Students must\, however\, be competent in the safe handling and operation of their firearm.  The course is open to U.S. citizens age 21 and above that may legally possess a firearm. \n  \nLive fire will be conducted with the student’s pistol and ammunition.  The drills will be “performance based” to increase the student’s knowledge\, competence and confidence in the defensive use of a pistol. The drills will encompass rapid movement and other physical activity to push the students to perform under a degree of “stress.”  Expect to shoot 250-300 rounds during the live fire segment of the class.  Hearing and eye protection are required as are two extra magazines or\, if a revolver is to be used\, at least two speed loaders.  A belt mounted magazine or speed load holder is highly recommended as is a strong side belt mounted holster that was made specifically to fit your pistol. \n  \nPreregistration and an initial deposit of 50% is required for registration and reservation of a spot in the class.  You may cancel your reservation up to 72 hours before the class begins and request to receive a full refund. If cancellation is made in less than 72 hours\, you will receive a credit which may be applied to another Critical Edge class at a later date.  Credit must be used within 180 days. \n  \nYou can reserve a spot in the seminar by going to:  www.criticaledge.us/make-a-payment/     The fee for the course is $125.00.  Members of the Duncannon Sportsmen’s Association\, veterans and first responders receive a $15.00 discount.  The fee for members of the U.S. military on active duty and students that have previously taken this class is $60.00.   To finalize registration\, please also send an email (at:  carl.walker@criticaledge.us ) with the following information: \n  \nName as you want it to appear on your certificate; \nMailing address; \nPhone number; \nPlease indicate if you are a member of the Duncannon Sportsmen’s Association\, active duty member of the U.S. military\, veteran or first responder; \nThe course title and the date(s) which you wish to attend; \nThe type and caliber/gauge of any firearm you want to bring to class; \nA brief description of your previous experience with firearms; \nYour interests with regard to firearms; and \nAny firearms or personal security goals you may have. \n  \nClass dates: \n\nMarch 15\, 2024 (Fri 9:00AM – 5:00PM)\nApril 11\, 2024 (Thur 9:00AM – 5:00PM)\nMay 9\, 2024 (Thur  9:00PM – 5:00PM)

SUMMARY:Critical Edge Concealed Carry
DESCRIPTION:Registration closed. \nFor many people\, the term “personal protection” evokes movie images of Bruce Lee or characters such as John Wick with arsenals of weapons.  In truth\, the use of force is only one element of personal protection and is a last resort.  Deterrence\, de-escalation\, escape\, evasion or otherwise avoiding an attack are all preferable resolutions. The Critical Edge Concealed Carry course is basic training for concealed carry.  It focuses on the effective use of a concealed firearm for self-defense.  Included are segments on concealment techniques and devices\, presenting the firearm from concealment\, utilizing cover and concealment\, presentation and movement\, low-light shooting engaging multiple targets and one-hand shooting.  The course also provides training in the development of concealed carry shooting skills\, special defensive shooting techniques\, legal aspects of concealed carry\, self defense and the law and the  aftermath of a shooting outside the home.  These topics  form the key capabilities used in the concealed carry of a firearm. \n  \nThere are no training prerequisites for this class.  But\, taking the NRA Basic Pistol course and the Critical Edge Home Defense course or their equivalents before undertaking the Concealed Carry course is highly encouraged.  This is not a beginner’s class.  Students must be experienced pistol shooters and thoroughly familiar with their pistol\, its operation and demonstrate safe firearms handling skills throughout the course.  Live fire will be conducted with the student’s pistol and ammunition. Hearing and eye protection are required as are at least two extra magazines or\, if a revolver is to be used\, at least two speed loaders.  A belt mounted magazine or speed load holder and a strong side belt mounted holster that was specifically made to fit your pistol are also required. To ensure close personal attention for each student\, this course is limited to 9 people. \n  \nThe course is open to U.S. citizens age 21 and above that may legally possess a firearm. SUMMARY:Critical Edge Intermediate Shotgun
DESCRIPTION:Registration closed. \n  \nContinuing to build on the foundation of safely handling a shotgun acquired in the NRA Basic Shotgun class\, this class is orientated towards the defensive use of a shotgun and includes material on gun handling\, reloads\, malfunctions\, engagement of multiple targets and use of cover and concealment.  It is an ideal stepping-stone to a home defense with shotgun course and a great opportunity for students to polish the skills learned in the home defense class. \n  \nThe drills will be “performance based” to increase the student’s knowledge\, competence and confidence with a shotgun. The drills will also encompass rapid movement and other physical activity to push the students to perform under a degree of “stress.” \nThere are no formal training prerequisites for this class.  Students must\, however\, be competent in the safe handling and operation of their firearm.  The course is open to U.S. citizens age 18 and above that may legally possess a firearm.  Under federal law\, however\, certain non-U.S. citizens are prohibited from participating in this course.    Only non-U.S. citizens who are: (1) lawfully permanent residents (e.g.\, green card holders); (2) refugees; or (3) individuals who have been granted asylum may participate in this course. \n  \nProgress through the course is not driven by a schedule.  We will move through the curriculum as quickly or slowly as necessary to allow the students to learn the material.  The training goals of the course are to provide an introductory foundation to enable the students to safely and successfully practice defensive shotgun skills on their own and to prepare them to continue into more advanced training. \n  \nLive fire will be conducted with the student’s shotgun and ammunition.  Expect to shoot 250 – 300 rounds during the live fire segment of the class.  Hearing and eye protection are required.  Semi automatic and pump shotguns in either 12 or 20 gauge are recommended for the class.  Single barrel/single shot shotguns and double barrel shotguns will greatly hamper the ability of students to participate in many of the drills and present a considerable barrier to defensive skills development.  A sling\, shotgun mounted shell holder and a body worn shell carrier are all recommended.   An ammunition pouch is also helpful and recommended.  If you are purchasing a shotgun or accessories prior to this course\, check with Critical Edge for some advice about  options before making your purchase. \n  \nThe Critical Edge Intermediate Shotgun course will be held within an easy driving distance of Harrisburg\, Mechanicsburg\, and Carlisle\, PA at the Duncannon Sportsmen’s Association on the dates below.  We will meet in the Duncannon Sportsmen’s Association clubhouse.   To ensure close personal attention for each student\, this course is limited to 9 people. \n  \nPreregistration and an initial deposit of 50% is required for registration and reservation of a spot in the class.  You may cancel your reservation up to 72 hours before the class begins and request to receive a full refund. If cancellation is made in less than 72 hours before the class begins\, you will receive a credit which may be applied to another Critical Edge class at a later date.  Credit must be used within 180 days.  To reserve a spot in a class please go to the following to make payment:  https://criticaledge.us/make-a-payment/  The fee for the course is $125.00.  Members of the Duncannon Sportsmen’s Association\, veterans and first responders receive a $15.00 discount.  The fee for members of the U.S. military on active duty and students that have taken the class previously is $60.00.  To finalize registration\, please also send an email to:   carl.walker@criticaledge.us.  Please include the following information: \n  \nYour name as you want it to appear on your certificate; \nMailing address; \nPhone number; \nPlease indicate if you are a member of the Duncannon Sportsmen’s Association\, a veteran or a first responder; \nThe course title and the date(s) which you wish to attend; \nThe make\, model and gauge of any shotgun you want to bring to class; \nA brief description of your previous experience with firearms; and \nYour interests with regard to firearms and any firearms or personal security goals you may have. \n  \nFall Class Dates: \n\nSept 22\, 2023 (Fri 10:00AM- 3:00PM)\nOct 29\, 2023 (Sun 11:00AM – 4:00PM)\nNov 6\, 2023 (Mon  1100AM – 4:00PM)\n\n

DESCRIPTION:Preregistration Required. \nContinuing to build on the foundation of safely handling a shotgun acquired in the NRA Basic Shotgun class\, this class is orientated towards the defensive use of a shotgun and includes material on gun handling\, reloads\, malfunctions\, engagement of multiple targets and use of cover and concealment. \n  \nFall Class Dates: \n\nSept 22\, 2023 (Fri 10:00AM- 3:00PM)\nOct 29\, 2023 (Sun 11:00AM – 4:00PM)\nNov 6\, 2023 (Mon  1100AM – 4:00PM)

The course also provides training in the development of concealed carry shooting skills\, special defensive shooting techniques\, legal aspects of concealed carry\, self defense and the law and the legal aftermath of a shooting outside the home.  These topics  form the key capabilities used in the concealed carry of a firearm. \nThe course is open to individuals age 21 and above that may legally possess a firearm. SUMMARY:Critical Edge Intermediate Shotgun
DESCRIPTION:Registration closed. It is an ideal stepping-stone to a home defense with shotgun course and a great opportunity for students to polish the skills learned in the home defense class. \nThe drills will be “performance based” to increase the student’s knowledge\, competence and confidence with a shotgun. The drills will encompass rapid movement and other physical activity to push the students to perform under a degree of “stress.” \nThere are no formal training prerequisites for this class. \nProgress through the course is not driven by a schedule.  We will move through the curriculum as quickly or slowly as necessary to allow the students to learn the material.  The training goals of the course are to provide an introductory foundation to enable for the student to safely and successfully practice defensive shotgun skills on their own and to prepare them to continue into more advanced training. \nLive fire will be conducted with the student’s shotgun and ammunition. \nThe Critical Edge Intermediate Shotgun course will be held within an easy driving distance of Harrisburg\, Mechanicsburg\, and Carlisle\, PA at the Duncannon Sportsmen’s Association on the dates below.  We will meet in the Duncannon Sportsmen’s Association clubhouse beginning at 9:00 AM and probably conclude by 5:00 PM.   To ensure close personal attention for each student\, this course is limited to 9 people. \nSummer Class Dates: \n\nJune 17\, 2013 (Sat)\nJuly 20\, 2023 (Thur)\nAug 11\, 2023 (Fri)\n\nPreregistration is required. Please include the following information: \nYour name as you want it to appear on your certificate; \nMailing address; \nPhone number; \nPlease indicate if you are a member of the Duncannon Sportsmen’s Association\, a veteran or a first responder; \nThe course title and the date(s) which you wish to attend; \nThe make\, model and gauge of any shotgun you want to bring to class; \nA brief description of your previous experience with firearms; and \nYour interests with regard to firearms and any firearms or personal security goals you may have. \n

SUMMARY:Critical Edge Intermediate Pistol
DESCRIPTION:Registration closed. \nThe Critical Edge Intermediate Pistol class is for students at skill levels from new pistol owners to those who grew up with firearms and want to improve their defensive firearms capabilities. While the cost of ammunition has dropped considerably from the height of the shortage\, laser pistols will be relied upon as an effective way to learn skills and to reduce ammunition costs. \nThere are no training prerequisites for this class.  Students\, however\, must be competent in the safe handling and operation of their firearm.  The course is open to U.S. citizens age 21 and above that may legally possess a firearm. \nProgress through the course is not driven by a schedule.  We will move through the curriculum as quickly or slowly as necessary to allow the students to learn the material.  The training goals of the course are to provide an introductory foundation to enable the students to safely and successfully practice defensive skills on their own and to prepare them to continue into more advanced training. \nLive fire will be conducted with the student’s pistol and ammunition.  Expect to shoot 250-300 rounds during the live fire segment of the class.  Hearing and eye protection are required as are two extra magazines or\, if a revolver is to be used\, at least two speed loaders.  A belt mounted magazine or speed load holder is highly recommended. \nThe Critical Edge Intermediate Pistol course will be held within an easy driving distance of Harrisburg\, Mechanicsburg\, and Carlisle\, PA at the Duncannon Sportsmen’s Association on the dates below.  We will meet in the Duncannon Sportsmen’s Association clubhouse beginning at 9:00 AM and probably conclude by 5:00 PM in September and October.  To ensure close personal attention for each student\, this course is limited to 9 people. \nSummer Course dates: \n\nJune 19\, 2023 (Mon)\nJuly 19\, 2023 (Wed)\nAug 6\, 2023 (Sun)\n\nPreregistration is required.  To reserve a spot in a class please go to the following to make payment:  https://criticaledge.us/make-a-payment/  The fee for the course is $125.00.  Members of the Duncannon Sportsmen’s Association\, veterans and first responders receive a $15.00 discount.  The fee for members of the U.S. military on active duty and students that have previously taken this course is $60.00.  To finalize registration\, please also send an email to:   carl.walker@criticaledge.us.  Please include the following information: \nYour name as you want it to appear on your certificate; \nMailing address; \nPhone number; \nPlease indicate if you are a member of the Duncannon Sportsmen’s Association\, an active duty member of the U.S. military\, a veteran\, a first responder\, or if you have taken this class previously; \nThe course title and the date(s) which you wish to attend; \nThe type and caliber of any firearm you want to bring to class; \nA brief description of your previous experience with firearms; and \nYour interests with regard to firearms and any firearms or personal security goals you may have.

SUMMARY:Critical Edge Intermediate Shotgun
DESCRIPTION:Registration closed.

SUMMARY:Critical Edge Intermediate Pistol
DESCRIPTION:Registration closed.. \nThe Critical Edge Intermediate Pistol class is for students at skill levels from new pistol owners to those who grew up with firearms and want to improve their defensive firearms capabilities.

DESCRIPTION:Registration closed. \nThe Critical Edge Intermediate Pistol class is for students at skill levels from new pistol owners to those who grew up with firearms and want to improve their defensive firearms capabilities. \n  \n

SUMMARY:Critical Edge Intermediate Shotgun
DESCRIPTION:  \nPreregistration required. \nThe drills will be “performance based” to increase the student’s knowledge\, competence and confidence with a shotgun. The drills will encompass rapid movement and other physical activity to push the students to perform under a degree of “stress.” \nThere are no formal training prerequisites for this class. \n
