SUMMARY:NRA Basic Pistol
DESCRIPTION:REGISTRATION CLOSED.  The topics presented in the NRA Basic Pistol class form the core knowledge and skills used in all pistol shooting activities\, from informal recreational shooting through hunting\, competition and self-defense.  Safety is foundational to the entire course.  Included are segments on gun handling\, shooting positions\, pistol shooting activities\, pistol types\, ammunition\, and selection of pistols\, ammunition and accessories.  I really like the NRA Basic Pistol curriculum.  It’s a comprehensive presentation of the basics and is great for brand new shooters and for experienced shooters who wish to build a stronger foundation of knowledge and skills. \nThe course is open to U.S. citizens age 18 and above.  Students below age 21 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.  Please coordinate the attendance of students below the age of 21 with Critical Edge in advance of signing up for the class. \nProgress through the course is not driven by a schedule.  We will move through the curriculum as quickly or slowly as necessary to allow the students to learn the material.  The training goal is to ensure that\, by the end of the course\, all the students have acquired the competence and confidence to safely handle a pistol on their own. \nAll live fire for the Basic Pistol course will be conducted on a one-on-one basis with an NRA certified instructor.  We will start with a .22 caliber pistol and ammunition provided by Critical Edge.  Those students who already have a pistol of their own\, and would like to fire it\, will have an opportunity to do so.  But\, they must bring their own ammunition and notify Critical Edge in advance. \nTo reserve a spot in a class please go to the following to make payment:  https://criticaledge.us/make-a-payment/  The fee for the course is $130.00.  To finalize registration\, please also send an email (at:  carl.walker@criticaledge.us ) with the following information: \nName as you want it to appear on your certificate; \nMailing address; \nPhone number; \nPlease indicate if you are a member of the Duncannon Sportsmen’s Association; \nThe course title and the date(s) which you wish to attend; \n\nThe type and caliber of any firearm you want to bring to class;\nA brief description of your previous experience with firearms; and\nYour interests with regard to firearms and any firearms or personal security goals you may have.\n\nThe classroom session will be held on Thursday the 1st of April in the Duncannon Sportsmen’s Association clubhouse beginning at 10:00 AM and probably concluding by 6:00 PM.   On Friday we will begin in the clubhouse at 10:00 and then move to the pistol range to for the live fire portion of the course.  We will probably conclude at approximately 6:00 PM.  This course is limited to 8 people.

SUMMARY:Refuse To Be A Victim
DESCRIPTION:Registration closed.    The Refuse to Be A Victim program teaches the techniques and tips needed to be alerted to dangerous situations and to avoid criminal confrontation.  It is not a physical self-defense or firearms class.  Rather\, it seeks to help people improve their personal safety practices and to provide insights into the tactics\, techniques and procedures commonly utilized by perpetrators of crime.  It covers valuable information about the psychology of criminal predators\, mental preparedness\, physical security\, home security\, automobile security\, security during travel\, and personal protection devices.  Such awareness is frequently the single most important factor in avoiding becoming a criminal’s victim. \nTo facilitate attendance by individuals that work during the day\, the Refuse To Be  A Victim seminar will be held at the Duncannon Sportsmen’s Association as a two evening event on the 5th and 6th of April 2021.  We will start at 6:30 PM both days and will conclude at approximately 8:30 PM.  But\, depending upon questions\, more or a less time may be required. \nThe cost of the seminar is $30.00 for members of Duncannon Sportsmen’s and $40.00 per person for non—members.   You can reserve a spot in the seminar by going to:  www.criticaledge.us/make-a-payment/   Please also send an email to:  Carl.walker@criticaledge.us  to indicate which date you would like to attend.  The Refuse to Be A Victim classes will be limited to 20 participants for each seminar. \n  \n

SUMMARY:Critical Edge Concealed Carry
DESCRIPTION:Registration Closed.  For many people\, the term “personal protection” evokes movie images of Bruce Lee or characters such as John Wick with arsenals of weapons.  In truth\, the use of force is only one element of personal protection and is a last resort.  Deterrence\, de-escalation\, escape\, evasion or otherwise avoiding an attack are all preferable resolutions. The Critical Edge Concealed Carry course is basic training for concealed carry.  It focuses on the effective use of a concealed firearm for self-defense.  Included are segments on concealment techniques and devices\, presenting the firearm from concealment\, utilizing cover and concealment\, presentation and movement\, low-light shooting engaging multiple targets and one-hand shooting.  The course also provides training in the development of concealed carry shooting skills\, special defensive shooting techniques\, legal aspects of concealed carry\, self defense and the law and the legal aftermath of a shooting outside the home.  These topics  form the key capabilities used in the concealed carry of a firearm. \nThe course is open to individuals age 21 and above that may legally possess a firearm.  Under federal law\, however\, certain non-U.S. citizens are prohibited from participating in this course.    Only non-U.S. citizens who are: (1) lawfully permanent residents (e.g.\, green card holders); (2) refugees; or (3) individuals who have been granted asylum may participate in this course.   There is no prerequisite for this class.  But\, taking the NRA Basic Pistol course and the Critical Edge Home Defense course or their equivalents before undertaking the Concealed Carry course is highly encouraged.  This is not a beginner’s class.  Students must be experienced pistol shooters and thoroughly familiar with their pistol\, its operation and demonstrate safe firearms handling skills throughout the course. \nProgress through the course is not driven by a schedule.  We will move through the curriculum as quickly or slowly as necessary to allow the students to learn the material. \nDates – April 17 & 18 2021.  The classroom session will be held on Saturday April 17th in the Duncannon Sportsmen’s Association clubhouse.   The live fire portion of the course will be held at the Duncannon Sportsmen’s Association pistol range on Sunday April 8th.  We will begin on Saturday at 10:00 AM and will probably conclude at 6:00 PM both days.  This course is limited to 12 people. \nTo reserve a spot in a class please go to the following to make payment:  https://criticaledge.us/make-a-payment/  The fee for the course is $230.00.  Members of the Duncannon Sportsmen’s Association\, veterans and first responders receive a $10.00 discount.  To finalize registration\, please also send an email (to:  carl.walker@criticaledge.us ) with the following information: \nName as you want it to appear on your certificate; \nMailing address; \nPhone number; \nPlease indicate if you are a member of the Duncannon Sportsmen’s Association; \nThe brand\, model and caliber of any firearm you will be bringing to class; \nYour interests with regard to firearms and any firearms; and \nA brief description of your previous experience with firearms; and any personal security goals you may have. \n
