Critical Edge Home Defense with Pistol

Preregistration required.

Critical Edge’s Home Defense with Pistol course addresses both the avoidance of attack and the use of force if necessary.  Much of the course deals with techniques and strategies designed to deter burglars, home invaders and other criminals.   Included are ways to make your home less appealing to criminals who will be inclined to seek easier targets.  The course emphasizes hands on training and includes information on defensive shooting skills including shooting positions, aiming and firing techniques, the use of cover and concealment, methods of clearing various types of firearm malfunctions and development of a home defense plan.   The skills presented in this course form the core shooting skills used to counter a life-threatening attack in the home and include segments on self defense law and the aftermath of a defensive shooting.

The course is open to individuals age 21 and above that may legally possess a firearm.  Under federal law, however, certain non-U.S. citizens are prohibited from participating in this course.    Only non-U.S. citizens who are: (1) lawfully permanent residents (e.g., green card holders); (2) refugees; or (3) individuals who have been granted asylum may participate in this course. There is no training prerequisite for this class.  But, taking the NRA Basic Pistol course and the Critical Edge Intermediate Pistol classes, or equivalents, before undertaking the Home Defense course is highly encouraged.  Students must be thoroughly familiar with their pistol, its operation and demonstrate safe firearms handling skills throughout the course.

Progress through the course is not driven by a schedule.  We will move through the curriculum as quickly or slowly as necessary to allow the students to learn the material.

The Critical Edge Home Defense with Pistol course will be held within an easy driving distance of Harrisburg, Mechanicsburg, and Carlisle, PA at the Duncannon Sportsmen’s Association on the dates below.  We will meet in the Duncannon Sportsmen’s Association clubhouse beginning at 9:00 AM and probably conclude by 5:00 PM.   To ensure close personal attention for each student, this course is limited to 9 people.
