A shotgun can be a devastatingly effective tool for home defense. But a shotgun is not a magic wand. Like any tool, a shotgun has advantages and disadvantages. Critical Edge’s Home Defense with Shotgun course provides an overview of the advantages and disadvantages of a shotgun for protecting oneself and one’s family in the home. The curriculum includes techniques and strategies designed to deter burglars, home invaders and other criminals. Included are ways to make your home less appealing to criminals who will be inclined to seek easier targets. The course also includes information on development of a home defense plan, shooting positions, aiming and firing techniques, the use of cover and concealment, methods of clearing various types of firearm malfunctions and segments on selfdefense law and the aftermath of a defensive shooting. The skills presented in this course form the core shooting skills used to counter a life-threatening attack in the home using a shotgun.
The course will be held within an easy driving distance of Harrisburg, Mechanicsburg, and
Carlisle, PA at the Duncannon Sportsmen’s Association on the dates below. We will meet in the Duncannon Sportsmen’s Association clubhouse. To ensure close personal attention for each student, this course is limited to 9 people.
There are no training prerequisites for this class. Students, however, must be competent in the safe handling and operation of their shotgun. Live fire will be conducted with the student’s shotgun and ammunition. Expect to shoot 250-300 rounds during the live fire segment of the class. Hearing and eye protection are required. A belt mounted ammunition pouch is recommended. The drills will be “performance based” and include a degree of stress to develop the student’s knowledge, competence and confidence.
The course is open to U.S. citizens age 18 and above that may legally possess a firearm. Due to current interpretations of International Traffic in Arms Regulations stemming from the Arms Export Control Act of 1976, only current, lawful “US Persons” – both US Citizens and lawful permanent Resident Aliens in possession of a current I-551 (colloquially known as a “Green Card”) are allowed to participate in firearms training courses.
