Critical Edge Home Defense Shotgun
August 4 @ 9:00 am - August 5 @ 5:00 pm
$300.00Preregistration required. This is not an NRA course.
A shotgun can be a devastatingly effective tool for home defense. But a shotgun is not a magic wand. Like any tool, a shotgun has advantages and disadvantages. Critical Edge’s Home Defense with Shotgun course provides an overview of the advantages and disadvantages of a shotgun for protecting oneself and one’s family in the home. The curriculum includes techniques and strategies designed to deter burglars, home invaders and other criminals. Included are ways to make your home less appealing to criminals who then will be inclined to seek easier targets. The course also includes information on the development of a home defense plan, shooting positions, aiming and firing techniques, the use of cover and concealment, methods of clearing various types of firearm malfunctions and segments on self-defense law and the aftermath of a defensive shooting. The skills presented in this course form the core shooting skills used to counter a life-threatening attack in the home using a shotgun.
The course will be held within an easy driving distance of Harrisburg, Mechanicsburg, and Carlisle, PA at the Duncannon Sportsmen’s Association on the dates below. We will meet in the Duncannon Sportsmen’s Association clubhouse. To ensure close personal attention for each student, this course is limited to 9 people.
There are no training prerequisites for this class. Students, however, must be competent in the safe handling and operation of their shotgun. Live fire will be conducted with the student’s shotgun and ammunition. Expect to shoot 250-300 rounds during the live fire segment of the class. Hearing and eye protection are required. A belt mounted ammunition pouch, a sling and a shotgun mounted ammunition holder (often called a side saddle) are all recommended. The drills will be “performance based” and include a degree of stress to develop the student’s knowledge, competence and confidence.
The course is open to U.S. citizens age 18 and above that may legally possess a firearm. Due to current interpretations of International Traffic in Arms Regulations stemming from the Arms Export Control Act of 1976, only current, lawful “US Persons” – both US Citizens and lawful permanent Resident Aliens in possession of a current I-551 (colloquially known as a “Green Card”) are allowed to participate in firearms training courses.
Preregistration and an initial deposit of 50% is required for registration and reservation of a spot in the class. You may cancel your reservation up to 72 hours before the class begins and request to receive a full refund. If cancellation is made in less than 72 hours before the class, you will receive a credit which may be applied to another Critical Edge class at a later date. Credit must be used within 180 days.
The fee for the course is $300.00. Members of the Duncannon Sportsmen’s Association, veterans and first responders receive a $35.00 discount. The fee for members of the U.S. military on active duty is $200.00. To begin registration, please send an email to carl.walker@criticaledge.us with the following information:
