Critical Edge Home Defense with Pistol

Registration Closed.  Critical Edge’s Home Defense with Pistol course addresses both the avoidance of attack and the use of force if necessary.  Much of the course deals with techniques and strategies designed to deter burglars, home invaders and other criminals.   Included are ways to make your home less appealing to criminals who will be inclined to seek easier targets.  The course emphasizes hands on training and  includes information on defensive shooting skills including shooting positions, aiming and firing techniques, the use of cover and concealment, methods of clearing various types of firearm malfunctions and development of a home defense plan.   The skills presented in this course form the core shooting skills used to counter a life-threatening attack in the home and include segments on self defense law and the aftermath of a defensive shooting.

The course is open to U.S. citizens age 18 and above that may legally possess a firearm.  Students below age 21 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.  Please coordinate the attendance of students below the age of 21 with Critical Edge in advance of signing up for the class.   There is no prerequisite for this class.  But, taking the NRA Basic Pistol course or equivalent before undertaking the Home Defense course is highly encouraged.  Students must be thoroughly familiar with their pistol, its operation and demonstrate safe firearms handling skills throughout the course.

Progress through the course is not driven by a schedule.  We will move through the curriculum as quickly or slowly as necessary to allow the students to learn the material.

Dates – April 7 & 8 2021.  The classroom session will be held on Wednesday April 7th in the Duncannon Sportsmen’s Association clubhouse.   The live fire portion of the course will be held at the Duncannon Sportsmen’s Association pistol range on Thursday April 8th.  We will begin both days at 10:00 AM and will probably conclude at 6:00 PM both days.  This course is limited to 12 people.
