NRA Basic Pistol
October 24, 2020 @ 9:00 am - October 25, 2020 @ 6:00 pm
The topics presented in the NRA Basic Pistol class form the core knowledge and skills used in all pistol shooting activities, from informal recreational shooting through hunting, competition and self-defense. Safety is foundational to the entire course. Included are segments on gun handling, shooting positions, pistol shooting activities, pistol types, ammunition, and selection of pistols, ammunition and accessories. I really like the NRA Basic Pistol curriculum. It’s a comprehensive presentation of the basics and is great for brand new shooters and for experience shooters who wish to build a stronger foundation of knowledge and skills. My goal is to ensure that, by the end of the course, all the students have acquired the competence and confidence to safely handle a pistol on their own. The first two evenings of this class will be spent in the classroom. The third day will focus on live fire. All live fire for the Basic Pistol course will be conducted on a one-on-one basis with an NRA certified instructor (me). We will start with a .22 caliber pistol and ammunition that I provide. Those students who already have a pistol of their own, and would like to fire it, will have an opportunity to do so. But, they must bring their own ammunition and let me know in advance.
The course is open to U.S. citizens age 18 and above. Each Basic Pistol course is limited to 8 people.
Students below age 21 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian. Please coordinate this with me in advance of the course.
We will have two Basic Pistol courses in October at Duncannon Sportsmen’s. This course will be held on the the 24th and 25th of October beginning at 9:00 AM on Sat for the classroom session in the Duncannon Sportsmen’s clubhouse. The live fire for this class will be held on October 25th beginning at noon. The course is not time based. Rather, we move through the material at whatever speed the participants absorb the information. The classroom portion will probably end around 85:00 PM and the live fire will probably end around 6:00 PM.
