This 17-hour course teaches the knowledge, skills and attitude essential to organizing, promoting and teaching NRA’s Basic Shotgun Shooting Course.
Possession of basic firearm safety and shooting skills is a perquisite for certification as an NRA instructor. Students must also have successfully completed the NRA Basic Shotgun course and provide a copy of their course certificate prior to beginning the NRA Shotgun Instructor course. Candidates also complete a pre-course questionnaire and demonstrate their firearm background in pre-course assessment exercises.
Description: Course is presented in two parts: basic instructor training, and discipline specific instructor training. Students demonstrate organizational and teaching skills via participation in practical exercises during the course, and complete an instructor certification examination. Students will receive the NRA Trainer’s Guide, NRA Shotgun Instructor Candidate Packet, and NRA Basic Shotgun Shooting course student packet.
NRA shotgun instructor certifications are available to individuals who are 21 years of age or older and are otherwise fully qualified to conduct NRA basic firearm training courses. NRA Assistant Instructor certifications are available for individuals 18 years of age or older who assist certified instructors to gain the knowledge and experience needed to become certified instructors. NRA Apprentice Instructor certifications are available for individuals 13 – 17 years of age who wish to understudy a certified instructor. Students below age 21 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian. Please coordinate the attendance of students below the age of 21 with Critical Edge in advance of signing up for the class. Due to current interpretations of International Traffic in Arms Regulations stemming from the Arms Export Control Act of 1976, only current, lawful “US Persons” – both US Citizens and lawful permanent Resident Aliens in possession of a current I-551 (colloquially known as a “Green Card”) are allowed to participate in NRA firearms training courses.
The fee for the course is $300.00. Members of the Duncannon Sportsmen’s Association, veterans and first responders receive a $35.00 discount.
